Where did your themes come from for your new song?

I have a new single coming out Wednesday, the 21st of August, and thought it might be fun to share a little of how some of the themes came about.

The song is entitled, EUCHARISTIC FEAST

It is about the miracle of the Eucharist.

Composing:

For me, I "hear" the melody in my head.

Sometimes, I hear the melody with words in my mind.

Then I write them, or "score" them on music paper and my work begins.

In this particular piece, I heard:

Five distinct notes ascending in a melody in a minor key.

Each note representing the phrase HUMAN AND DIVINE in an instrumental form.

These five notes appear many places in the piece and are always the "underlying" presence of the Divine in the Eucharist.

A second example are phrases that use a repeated note for each of the words in important phrases like:

In the bread and wine (example on audio below)

The third example shows a strong contrasting theme introduced by a second voice with its long, broad sweeping melody:

"For now and forever, I will always be there for you. For all who believe in me."

Next week you can hear the voices with the melodies and hear the instrumental five note theme as it plays through the piece and gives the presence of the Divine.
